LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP -- A Wausau man died Sunday afternoon when the car in which he was a passenger collided head on with a semi in LaFayette Township in Walworth County, Wis..
Matthew B. Kehl, 25, of Wausau was riding in a 1996 Buick Regal driven by Sophie M. Nelson, 21, of Kenosha at about 3:45 p.m. on Wisconsin Highway 11 near Plank Road when investigators say Nelson crossed the centerline.
A 2005 Peterbilt semi, driven John M. Seybert III, 51, of Bristol was unable to avoid the oncoming car, according to a Walworth County Sheriff's Office news release.
The Buick suffered severe damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and the Walworth County Coroner's Office pronounced Kehl dead at the scene.
Nelson was flown directly from the crash scene by Flight for Life. Her status is unknown. Both subjects were wearing seatbelts.
Seybert was driving for Mighty Grand Dairy, LLC, out of Union Grove. He did not suffer any injuries. This case is open and under investigation.
