The Mustang Heritage foundation, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management created the Extreme Mustang Makeover as a way to highlight the versatility of the mustang and to promote their adoption from the wild.
According to the BLM, there are more than 33,000 wild horses and burros roaming in the wild. Because these animals have no natural predators, the population has the possibility of doubling every four years. An equal number of horses and burros is being held, split up between short-term facilities (corrals) and long-term facilities (pastures).
